Oil Additives FAQ
ZDDP Oil Fortifier and StictionRX serve different purposes. Match the product to your engine, oil system and emissions equipment before treatment.
Select a question to read the answer.
What is the difference between ZDDP Oil Fortifier and StictionRX?
ZDDP Oil Fortifier supplements suitable lubricating oils with anti-wear additives and friction modifiers for compatible engines, gearboxes and other oil-lubricated equipment. Check the emissions restriction below before use.
StictionRX is an engine-oil treatment for injector stiction in Ford 6.0L and 7.3L Power Stroke engines with HEUI injectors. Its friction modifiers and boron-enhanced detergent package target deposits and sticking on the injector’s high-pressure oil side. The two products have different purposes and treatment instructions.
Do oil additives go in the fuel tank or the engine oil?
StictionRX goes in the engine oil. ZDDP Oil Fortifier goes in the suitable lubricating-oil system identified for the application. Neither product is a diesel fuel additive or DEF treatment. Follow the specific product label and equipment requirements.
For products added to diesel fuel, visit our Diesel Fuel Additives FAQ.
ZDDP Oil Fortifier
Can I use ZDDP Oil Fortifier with a catalytic converter or DPF?
No. We do not recommend ZDDP Oil Fortifier for vehicles equipped with catalytic converters or diesel particulate filters (DPFs). Its additive package can shorten the life of these emissions devices. This restriction is specific to Oil Fortifier; compatibility statements for our diesel fuel additives do not override it.
For any oil additive, confirm the exact engine, emissions equipment and lubricant requirements before use.
How much ZDDP Oil Fortifier should I use?
Use the current bottle label and Oil Fortifier treatment chart. The chart distinguishes a higher first treatment from standard treatment. For 5 quarts of oil, it lists 8 oz for first treatment and 5 oz for standard treatment; for 10 quarts, it lists 16 oz and 10 oz respectively.
The advertised “treats up to” package capacity uses the standard rate. First treatment uses more additive, so the same bottle treats less oil. Measure for the oil quantity being treated and count the additive toward the system’s total fluid capacity. Maintain the prescribed oil level.
StictionRX
How do I use StictionRX, and which engines is it intended for?
StictionRX is intended for Ford 6.0L and 7.3L Power Stroke engines with HEUI injectors. At an oil change, replace 16 oz (½ quart) of motor oil with one 16 oz bottle of StictionRX. Include it in the total oil fill and maintain the prescribed oil level.
The current product directions specify one bottle. Follow the label on the product you receive, and contact us if older first-use instructions differ. Confirm the application with us before using it in another engine or injection system. View StictionRX directions.
Oil Compatibility & Maintenance
Can I use an oil additive with synthetic oil or combine it with another treatment?
Start with the equipment and oil supplier’s requirements. Synthetic or conventional oil alone does not establish that a supplemental additive is suitable. Check the exact oil specification, engine application, emissions equipment and product label.
Do not assume that ZDDP Oil Fortifier and StictionRX should be combined or that another oil treatment can be added at its full dose. Contact us with the oil brand/grade, system capacity and any treatment already present. If you need a specific final zinc level, provide the base oil’s verified zinc content; the bottle size alone does not establish the final concentration.
Will an oil additive repair a damaged injector or replace oil changes?
No. StictionRX targets deposit-related sticking and friction; symptoms can also have mechanical or electrical causes. Persistent problems need diagnosis. An additive does not repair a failed component or replace the prescribed oil grade, filter changes or service interval.
Follow the separate directions for each product and review its Safety Data Sheet
